Expeditions Offered
Sample trip:
12 day Expedition – never shorter but sometimes longer depending on teams objectives…decided before flights are booked.
By the very nature of where we are this is totally dependent on ice conditions, weather and the experience of the group. Some teams I take on a pretty standard route which gives them an amazing 10 – 11 days on the water, visiting ancient camp / house sites with graves and turf houses etc. Also calling into one or two of the small satellite settlements to restock supplies and experience the hunting culture. They gt to paddle in lots of ice and visit and camp close to glaciers which calve into the sea. Whales and Narwhal possible sightings. When folk are returning for a second or even third time we try and explore new ground and have ventured way up north towards lake Fjord where Gino Watkins died.. all pretty out on the edge type stuff.
Day 1
Arrive Kulusuk and transfer by boat to base in Tasiilaq. Briefings, issue kayaks and kit, move to accommodation or set up base camp. Food and personal shopping prior to packing kayaks – Pizza and beer.
Day 2
Finish packing, trip prep. Depart on expedition when ready / route depends on conditions.
Day 3 – 10 / 11
On trip – self sufficient. Group experience and learn about everything mentioned in the module, but its all done very informally although thoroughly. Aim is that everyone is aware and happy to navigate and take the lead in ice during the trip.
Day 11 / 12
Return to Tasiilaq ( although we may have a boat pick up depending on group and or aims etc of where we went ) Generally an option day. Hill day or culture day in settlement or a bit of both. Pizza and beer.
Day 13
Early boat pick up to return to airport.
