About ISKGA
An international sea kayak guide alliance which represents the professional and commercial sea kayak guide.
Setting the Standards for Sea Kayak Guides
ISKGA guides are commercial guides who have registered with us, using this web site as a portal, where you can view their current services and qualifications or they may have completed the ISKGA modular system and are fully trained to a professional Guide standard. In this case their current status will be displayed beside their name and the modules that have been completed by them will be indicated.
It may be that you wish to become an ISKGA sea kayak guide, if that is the case, you can register here, you can then search through the web site and find a trainer in your area. Once your trainer feels you are ready for an observation, you can contact us – and we will point you in the right direction of an observation.
ISKGA Learning
The ISKGA syllabus is a modular system and can be completed by attending an intensive programme with one of our authorised centres or can be completed over a period of time.
Our Ethos
We are an independent association, free of the restraints of any governing body which controls the sporting aspects of sea kayaking, sea kayaking to an ISKGA member is not just a sport, it is a profession, it is a way of life.
We fall under no particular doctrine but we are not insular, this is because we are an informed and international community-we do not see the Oceans, lakes and rivers of the world as being barriers or borders between nations, but instead see them as being the fluid that binds us all together.
National Guidelines
Individual guides and businesses will be responsible for meeting their home nation legal system and we encourage all of our guides to work within National Governing Body guidelines. We look to recognised organisations and individuals who are experts in their chosen fields for both guidance and advice. This includes,NGB's, the Coast Guard and other rescue related organisations such as the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.
